The Constitution of India provides equal rights and opportunities to women. It does not make any discrimination on the grounds of sex. Indian women are also responding positively to this changed socio-political situation. This does not mean that our women are completely free from problems. On the contrary, the changing situation is causing them new problems. They are now beset with new stresses and strains. Some of the major problems haunting the modern women may briefly be given as-

1. Increasing Violence against Women.

2. Gender Discrimination.

3. Problems of Female Education.

4. Problems Relating to Employment and Unemployment of Women.

5. Harassment of Women at Work Place.

6. Exploitation of Women in the Media.

7. Divorce and Desertion.

8. The Problem of Dowry.

9. Decline in the Political Participation of Women.

The Women Cell is constituted to help maintain a harmonious atmosphere that enable women to pursue their work with dignity and reassurance. The Cell has been working to raise awareness on gender equality issues.  M J College is committed to maintain a professional learning and working environment for its students, employees and guests. One of the Women cells’ mandate is to prevent gender discrimination and inappropriate sexual conduct. This is best achieved through promoting gender sensitivity and justice amongst all students and employees.

The women’s cell organization of MJ College was established in the year 2014 under the leadership of Dr. Shreelekha Virulkar. In the year 2014 Dr. Nalini Dixit took up the responsibility of the cell. In the year 2016 Dr. Shweta Bhatia had taken over the responsibility of the cell. All the faculty and student members work for the cause of women empowerment. The success of the women cell is due to hard work and perseverance of every member of the cell.

Women Empowerment and Gender Equality are the most important requirements for the upliftment and progress of our nation. In the effort to make MJ college a strong kernel of gender sensitization, the women cell was constituted in 2014. The cell was both the faculty and students of the college as its member and works with an aim to create a gender sensitized community with campus as well as in the society. It has been organizing varied academic, cultural and social events for the upliftment of women and spread the real importance of gender equality in the society through college students.
